Akagera National Park

Akagera is the only big five national park in Rwanda and central Africa’s largest protected wetland and the last remaining refuge for savannah-adapted species in Rwanda, however, it was not always and has an inspiring conservation story.

An exciting and adventurous activity is a morning or evening boat trip, exploring the rich biodiversity of the lakes in the national park along with their surrounding islands, and existent wildlife that inhibits the lake waters and shores. Expect to view lots of bird species such as; the Papyrus Gonolek, jacanas, herons, sandpipers, malachite kingfisher, the hawk, and the rare shoebill stork among so many more.
A night game drive in Akagera National Park gives you the best way to encounter and spot nocturnal animals, such as leopards, hyenas, civets, mongoose, and many other nocturnal wildlife in the park.
