Nyagatare, with its grassy plains and low hills, is the centre of the cattle farming region and an important milk collection point for several milk producers. The vibrant central market is worth visiting with its array of fresh produce, it’s also a great place to sample local cuisine. Did you know that Rwanda is a major producer of coffee and tea? The aroma of coffee permeates the experience.
The market is also the perfect place to pick up some handcrafted goods, as a souvenir or memento and to watch the locals trading their wares.
You’re welcome to take a stroll beyond the main streets and into the city’s neighbourhoods. Nyagatare is one of the most populous settlements in the Eastern province and, due to its location, it boasts spectacular views in all directions, including to the mountains of southern Uganda.
