Having transitioned from a banker to a chef, Vincent Mugema embraced and found his passion in culinary arts.

Follow your Passion

Inspired by his brother, an award-winning chef, Vincent’s journey into the culinary world began after his university studies. He pursued short courses in food production, followed by a Bachelor’s degree in International Hotel Management.

Vincent discovered that culinary arts brought him immense joy. He started his career at five-star hotels, honing his culinary skills. Now, as the Executive Chef at Mantis Kivu Marina Bay Hotel for over three years, his experience and dedication motivate his team to deliver quality dishes.

As a Rwandan, culture has inspired Vincent to make traditional cuisine his signature dish.

“Across the globe, people appreciate diverse cuisines while cherishing the taste of their locality. I certainly find joy in incorporating Rwandan cuisine in my culinary pursuits and blend it with flavours inspired by global influences,” says Vincent.

Never Stop Learning

Vincent’s culinary expertise extends beyond borders. With his special skill for Italian cuisine, a segment under the international culinary arts, his heart lies in the flavours of both Rwandan and Italian dishes.

He takes pride in using ingredients sourced directly from the hotel’s garden, including a variety of herbs like oregano, rosemary, and tarragon. This not only enhances the taste but ensures the freshness of every dish he serves.

Vincent is not just a chef! His passion goes beyond cooking; when he isn’t playing basketball, you will find him playing gospel music. He also enjoys reading cookbooks, visiting other hotels, and participating in online coaching sessions by international senior chefs, to learn new recipes, and industry trends.

Vincent’s journey shows that being a great chef takes more than just cooking skills. It requires passion, dedication to learning, and a love for using fresh, high-quality ingredients to achieve success and excellence in the culinary world.
